About me
Hi there, I’m Asher, and I love helping people make music! I’ve been passionate about music since I was a kid and spent over 10 years studying it through private instruction. Those lessons shaped not only my playing but also the way I approach teaching.
I believe anyone can learn to play music with the right guidance and a little persistence. Nobody learns just like everybody else, so, my goal is to find your unique way of learning. Whether you want to play your favorite songs, strengthen your technique, or just enjoy making music at your own pace, I want my students to feel comfortable, motivated, and excited to pick up their instrument.
Outside of music, I enjoy spending time with my wife and baby, and I love connecting with people through creativity. I’d be glad to help you on your musical journey!
Teaching Philosophy
I have found in my twelve hundred hours of teaching experience, that the best way to help my students develop in to well rounded musicians, composers and band leaders is to teach through the “3 C’s” by developing:
Core instrument excellence
Comprehension of how music works and training the musical ear
Creativity through composition and and improvisation
I believe that creativity is the heart of music and that every student learns in their own unique way. For young learners, encouragement and developing a love for music are the most important. For more challenged learners, understanding the concept and feeling the rhythm are more vital than getting every note right.
Learning by ear and learning with written music are both valid ways to start learning music and they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
